The deadline has passed for candidates to return Texas HepPac
questionnaires for the November 4 Houston municipal election.
Candidates who did not return questionnaires by the October
5 deadline will not be considered for endorsement by Texas
HepPac. Hepatitis C is a health crisis in Houston and throughout
the nation. It is estimated that up to 5.7 million Americans
are infected with the blood-borne virus. As many as 80,000
people are infected with the deadly virus in the Houston area. HCV is now four times more prevalent than HIV/AIDS. It is
the leading reason for liver transplants in the United States.
The City of Houston has dropped the ball in dealing with the
Hepatitis C crisis. Texas HepPac will announce our endorsements for mayor, controller,
and city council during the week of October 13. We are thrilled
that our choice for mayor has a bold plan for Hepatitis C
and new vision for public health in Houston. For more information contact Ray Hill, 713-523-6969.   |
