The Honorable Robert L. EhrlichState House
 Annapolis, MD 21401
Dear Governor Ehrlich, I am writing to you today to ask you to sign and pass into
law 2 bills. The first one is Senate Bill 519 and the second
one is House Bill 386. The reason I am asking you to sign these bills into law are
because I am involved in Hepatitis-C prevention and treatment
and these bills will help us tremendously in getting the public
aware of this epidemic. Hepatitis-C is a very devastating and debilitating disease.
Hepatitis-C is a blood borne virus that attacks the liver
and is one of the leading causes of chronic liver disease
in the United States. It is estimated by the Center for Disease
Control that 5 million Americans have hepatitis-C, 4 times
as many as those with HIV-AIDS and they also carry the antibody
to Hepatitis-C. Nearly 70% are chronically infected (which means that liver
disease has occurred) and 30% will progress to cirrhosis,
end stage liver disease, and Cancer. Hepatitis-C kills approximately
30,000 people every year and that figure is expected to triple
in the next 3 years. There is currently NO CURE for Hepatitis-C, however there
are treatments that can put a patient into a virological remission. Please sign the 2 above-mentioned bills and pass them into
law so that we can begin to get a handle on Hepatitis-C. Sincerely,
