Letters to the
Editor,
7/28/00
I am a Hepatitis researcher, counselor and the author of Triumph Over Hepatitis C. I am writing to set the record straight for your readers. The editorial in print on Monday,
July 17, 2000 entitled 'Hep C', Thriving on Ignorance; stated that "Hepatitis C, a blood-borne, potentially fatal liver disease spread mostly by sexual contact."
While it is true that
intravenous drug users and homosexuals seem to have a higher incident of both partners having this virus, it has not been established that Hep. C is transmitted through sex. I have over 22,000
clients most of whom are married and have been for years. Of this group only one partner shows up having the Hepatitis C virus.
For you to say that Hep C is "spread mostly by sexual
contact" is an outrageous misinterpretation of the facts. There is no credible study published indicating that Hepatitis C is an STD.
Thank you for sharing this correct information with your readers.
In Good Health,
Lloyd Wright
