Re: Allergies & Ephedra Products
March 6, 2004

Lloyd,

Just to inform you... I looked up hay fever in the Prescription for Nutrtitional Healing and 90% of the listed items to take for hay fever he is consuming in your products. Interesting... It has been a week and so far so good. No allergy problems, his fatigue has lessoned, and he has much more energy.

He was informed by his Gastro. that his ALT's were above the 500's due to the allergy medication. We asked the G.P. if this was safe before he started to take it with his known liver condition and of course we were told yes!!

So now we have no real starting number, but it will be interesting to see how much it goes down.

B:

Well, I think the verdict is still out on ephedra. But the consensus seems to be that it is safe when taken as directed (I have copied some information on safety guidelines from ephedrafacts.com and pasted them below). To my knowledge it does not conflict with any of my products. Make sure your tea has a good label reporting total milligrams of everything that's in it - all the different names for ephedra and even caffeine - because I understand they can have a synergistic effect and increase the potency.

Industry Recommendation

Serving Limits, Warnings
and Precautions for Taking Ephedra Products

a.. Do not take more than 25 mg ephedrine alkaloids per serving and not more than 100 mg per day.

b.. Consult a health care professional before consuming an Ephedra-containing dietary supplement if you have heart disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, depression or other psychiatric condition, glaucoma, difficulty in urinating, prostate enlargement, or seizure disorder, if you are using a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAoI) or any other prescription drug, or you are using an over-the-counter drug containing ephedrine, pseudoephedrine or phenylpropanolamine (ingredients found in certain allergy, asthma, cough/cold and weight control products).

c.. Do not use Ephedra products if you are under the age of 18. Do not use Ephedra products if you are pregnant or nursing.

d.. Discontinue use and call a health care professional immediately if you experience rapid heartbeat, dizziness, severe headache, shortness of breath, or other similar symptoms.

e.. Exceeding recommended serving will not improve results and may result in serious adverse health effects.

That is what is said about ephedra by the medical community.

I have found that many problems exist with numerous drugs in relation to hep c. Relatively safe things for people can have serious effects on people with liver disease.

If a product causes the ALT to go to 500, one should not take it unless death was eminent if they did not.

I am happy things are better.

In good health
Lloyd
