Life is full of risks, yet we try to protect
ourselves as much as we can. If anything does go wrong, we
trust that we can go to the hospital and receive the care
we need.
But you probably didn't realize that 90,000 people die each
year from unrelated infections they catch while in the hospital,
making hospital infection one of the top
ten leading causes of death in the U.S.
Act
Here
Incredibly, hospitals still don't have to report information
about their infection rates to the public or the government!
This secrecy makes it impossible for us to know which hospitals
may pose a risk to our health.
That's why Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer
Reports, has launched a campaign to make hospital infection
rates available to the public so people can make informed
choices about where they go for health care.
You
Can Help: send a letter here to tell federal
regulators to make hospital infection rates public across
the nation.
Armed with accurate, reliable information about hospital infections,
we can make better choices and hospitals will have a strong
incentive to reduce their infection rates. Once you've
sent your message, please pass this email along to your friends
and family members. Your help will only take a moment, and
will make a big difference!
